We are looking for a brilliant (but low ego) technical writer to join the Splunk docs team. Your system administration and/or cloud ops background will enable you to work in close partnership with engineering and operations teams to build and maintain our online user documentation, in-product user assistance, and key internal documentation. You will thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment where a sharp sense of humor is basic currency. Our customer documentation is edited live in a custom MediaWiki instance and continuously updated with improvements and new features.

Ideally, you have experience working with and documenting cloud-based software products for an enterprise admin audience. In this role, you will document both broadly and deeply for users of cloud-based Splunk software, and also for the internal teams that deploy and handle the software. In the hiring process, be prepared to tell stories that demonstrate how your writing has equipped internal and external customers with the skills and knowledge they need to be successful using your software.


* Write technical documentation for Splunk software users, including people administering enterprise software environments and people monitoring and leading cloud software deployments.

* Document deployment and use of Splunk apps in hosted, cloud-based environments.

* Become an expert in Splunk software, ready to discuss and demonstrate technical details with developers, product managers, support engineers, and customers daily

* Collaborate with development and operations teams to write essential internal documentation that improves efficient and repeatable processes.

* Learn complex technical information and communicate it in a readable, concise, and accurate manner.

* Follow an established writing style guide and work with an editor to refine and improve documentation deliverables.

* Propose structural and interpersonal improvements to the documentation set.

* Coordinate shared content and deliverables with other writers


* 5+ years of researching and writing excellent documentation and examples for senior system administrators, business analysts, and/or developers

* Solid knowledge of UNIX/Linux and/or Windows system administration tasks, such as role administration, license management, security, networking, and distributed server environments

* You have experience working with and documenting cloud-based enterprise software

* Familiarity with cloud orchestration tools and DevOps methodologies.

* You have the ability to lead multiple, challenging priorities in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment

* You have the willingness to occasionally travel to other Splunk offices in order to interview subject matter experts.

* Knowledge of Splunk Cloud or Splunk Enterprise is a huge plus.


* BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Technical Communication, English, a related technical discipline, or meaningful professional experience.
